The story behind this project in Jumeirah
The family had already signed the lease. They had eight weeks, a villa with 1990s bathrooms, and a hard date for the children's school term in Jumeirah.
First visit: what we walked into in Jumeirah
On the first walk-through the villa smelled of damp. Ceilings were stained under the first-floor bathrooms, the kitchen was closed off behind two walls, and the distribution board still carried rewireable fuses.
The promise we made the owner of this four-bedroom villa
We promised the owners one supervisor, one programme and no surprise invoices — an itemised quotation before any wall came down, and a villa they could live in on handover day, not a site with a snag list.
The moment the project turned
The turning point came when we opened the first-floor bathroom floor. The original waterproofing had failed across the whole wet area, which explained every stain downstairs. We stopped, re-priced only that section, and the owners approved the same afternoon — that honesty set the tone for the rest of the job.
Craftsmanship that made the difference
The detail we are proudest of is the marble. The entrance hall and staircase were laid dry first so the veining ran continuously up each riser, then bonded, ground and polished on site. Skirtings were mitred rather than butted, and the cove lighting above was set out so no shadow lands on a joint.
Handover day in Jumeirah
We handed over with the AC balanced, every socket tested and labelled, and the paintwork touched up after the furniture arrived. The family moved in four days before term started.
