The story behind this project in Mudon

They had lived with the developer's lawn for three years and used the garden perhaps five times. The problem was not the plants. It was shade.

First visit: what we walked into in Mudon

The garden faced west and baked from three in the afternoon. The irrigation was surface-laid and leaking, and the grass thinned wherever the sun hit hardest.

The promise we made the owner of this townhouse garden

We promised a garden usable in the evening for most of the year: real shade, planting chosen for UAE heat, and irrigation buried and zoned so nothing dies in August.

The moment the project turned

Once the louvred pergola frame went up, the owners stood under it at 5pm and realised the whole layout should pivot toward it. We moved the dining terrace two metres before paving — a change that cost almost nothing then and would have cost a great deal later.

Craftsmanship that made the difference

Pathways were laid on a compacted sub-base with tight joints so nothing rocks underfoot. The pergola louvres were set to cut the low western sun but let the evening sky through, and the outdoor kitchen counter was cut from one slab so the grain runs unbroken.

Handover day in Mudon

We programmed the irrigation controller, set the lighting scenes and left a simple planting care sheet. They ate outside that night.
