A tower apartment with a spectacular view and a kitchen that faced a wall. Everything else on this project followed from fixing that one thing.
First visit: what we walked into in Downtown Dubai
The layout was builder-standard: closed galley kitchen, glossy tiles, cheap skirting. Nothing was structurally wrong, but nothing used the view either.
The promise we made the owner of this two-bedroom apartment
We promised a fit-out run to the building's rules — approved drawings, permitted working hours, protected lift and corridors — and a finished apartment with no dust left in a single cupboard.
The moment the project turned
The turning point was the building's approval meeting. Because our drawings already showed the kitchen extract and wet-area positions unchanged, the permit came back quickly and we never lost a week arguing about compliance.
Craftsmanship that made the difference
The island is a single stone slab with a mitred, honed edge so it reads solid rather than clad. Walnut joinery was shop-made, trial-fitted and scribed on site, and the timber flooring was laid in one continuous direction toward the window to pull the eye to the view.
Handover day in Downtown Dubai
We handed over with the joinery adjusted, appliances commissioned, lighting on scenes and the apartment cleaned twice.
